Missionary Spotlight September

This month's Missionary Spotlight is on the ministry team of Kevin and Denise Owsley.

The Owsleys have been faithful to the Lord's calling on their lives including in their nearly 35 years with the Rural Home Missionary Association (Morton, IL), most recently serving at Webster Community Church near Carthage, IL.  We now the privilege of experiencing the Owsleys' pastoral care and encouragement first hand!  Kevin will be joining the staff at Hanna City Presbyterian where he will take on the role of Director of Ministries, and Denise will plug into various ministries to feed her passion and reflect her gifting from the Lord.  Kevin will still be a supported missionary with RHMA but will also receive additional support directly from our church as part-time staff (30-35 hours per week) as he continues to help reach our community with the Gospel, build up our church body, help develop our ministry programming and volunteerism in the church, and help guide various ministries like our future prayer walks to the glory of God.  Kevin will also share some of the pastoral load at HCPC by making visits, leading Bible studies, and encouraging our congregation where ever he is able.   We are blessed to have Kevin and Denise join our congregation and joyful to continue to support them as missionaries with RHMA.

Prayer Requests:

  • Continued strength and encouragement in their transition to Hanna City later this month.

  • Wisdom for how best to use the gifts and abilities as the Lord leads them there.

  • Improving health for both Kevin and Denise.

Lazarus Awakening:Finding Your Place in the Heart of God by Joanna Weaver.

In this book, you’ll encounter the story of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus in a fresh way as you open your heart to the truth that you are cherished—apart from anything you accomplish. Just as He called Lazarus forth to new life, Jesus wants to free you to live fully in the light of His love, unhindered by fear, regret, or self-condemnation. You can choose between Monday or Wednesday evenings for this 8-week study, starting Sept. 17 at the church. The cost of the book is $12.00. Contact Jen Keithley or Pam Winterroth  by Sept. 9 to reserve a book.

Although the study started, it’s not too late to join in! Contact Jen or Pam for information.

Fellowship Meal and Prayer Walk

Jeremiah 29:7: But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.  Join us after church TODAY for a fellowship luncheon followed by our first church-wide prayer walk.  A prayer walk is an opportunity to mobilize into Hanna City, praying specifically for her welfare.  Pray quietly, out loud, or in silence.  Invite the Holy Spirit to open our eyes, ears and hearts to what the Lord desires.  Pray for God’s blessing of redemption upon our community and for the present-hour needs of each household.

August 12, following morning worship service, we will share a potluck lunch in our downstairs fellowship room.  After fueling up with food and fellowship, all who feel led will mobilize into Hanna City for a prayer walk.

If you have questions about the luncheon, please contact the hostesses - Dorcus Phoebe.

Journey Bags Vs. Trashbags...

Dignity…Comfort…Love...Security...

We are so pleased to be partnering again this July with The Forgotten Initiative in Peoria, to provide Journey Bags for area foster children.  Starting Sunday, July 1st, you are invited to pick up a backpack in the church foyer, and to fill it with essentials and comfort items for a special foster child.  Please return your filled bag to the church by Sunday, July 29th, when we will pray together over the Journey Bags before they are sent off.  For more information, please contact Rachel Fitch.

At seven he had already moved more times than the total number of years he had been on earth.  And this time, like the times before, he moved with his belongings in a trash bag.  A suitcase, at least, would have added a small degree of dignity to the whole affair--to be placed in another and yet another foster home before reaching 3rd grade.  Trash bags break, you know.  Trash bags can't possibly support the contents of any life, and certainly not a life as fragile as this.   - Social Worker from "The Child I Didn't Adopt"
