Missionary Spotlight

Our Missionary Spotlight this month shines on Eli Beltran, Youth For Christ Peoria

In 1970, newly married Eli and Marcia Beltran moved to Peoria. Full of energy, vision and passion, they were ready to begin ministry with Peoria Area Youth for Christ. Ten years later, Eli was asked to lead the local ministry of YFC. The next 21 years were filled with ministry successes, plenty of failures and seeing God work through this ministry. GOD was FAITHFUL. YFC saw hundreds of teens come to Christ.

In 2001, Eli and his family relocated to Central America to serve in YFC International. Eli’s ministry role was trainer, facilitator, mentor, counselor and outreach to youth throughout Latin America. A critical part of those years was serving on the leadership team responsible for strategic direction, oversight and training to the 22 nations of the Americas.

Coming full circle to today, Eli has rejoined the Peoria Area Youth for Christ as Ambassador to Teens. He is working with the Peoria YFC team towards the goal of reaching lost teens in Central Illinois.

Want to learn more about the Peoria Youth For Christ ministry? Are you feeling the tug to become part of their team? Check out their website at www.yfcpeoria.org or contact them at 309-688-6685, 4100 N. Brandywine Drive.

National Day of Prayer
May

8:00 AM08:00

National Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Our Task Force is a privately funded organization whose purpose is to encourage participation on the National Day of Prayer. It exists to communicate with every individual the need for personal repentance and prayer, to create appropriate materials, and to mobilize the Christian community to intercede for America’s leaders and its families. The Task Force represents a Judeo-Christian expression of the national observance, based on our understanding that this country was birthed in prayer and in reverence for the God of the Bible.

Lazarus Awakening:Finding Your Place in the Heart of God by Joanna Weaver.

In this book, you’ll encounter the story of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus in a fresh way as you open your heart to the truth that you are cherished—apart from anything you accomplish. Just as He called Lazarus forth to new life, Jesus wants to free you to live fully in the light of His love, unhindered by fear, regret, or self-condemnation. You can choose between Monday or Wednesday evenings for this 8-week study, starting Sept. 17 at the church. The cost of the book is $12.00. Contact Jen Keithley or Pam Winterroth  by Sept. 9 to reserve a book.

Although the study started, it’s not too late to join in! Contact Jen or Pam for information.

Fellowship Meal and Prayer Walk

Jeremiah 29:7: But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.  Join us after church TODAY for a fellowship luncheon followed by our first church-wide prayer walk.  A prayer walk is an opportunity to mobilize into Hanna City, praying specifically for her welfare.  Pray quietly, out loud, or in silence.  Invite the Holy Spirit to open our eyes, ears and hearts to what the Lord desires.  Pray for God’s blessing of redemption upon our community and for the present-hour needs of each household.

August 12, following morning worship service, we will share a potluck lunch in our downstairs fellowship room.  After fueling up with food and fellowship, all who feel led will mobilize into Hanna City for a prayer walk.

If you have questions about the luncheon, please contact the hostesses - Dorcus Phoebe.

Journey Bags Vs. Trashbags...

Dignity…Comfort…Love...Security...

We are so pleased to be partnering again this July with The Forgotten Initiative in Peoria, to provide Journey Bags for area foster children.  Starting Sunday, July 1st, you are invited to pick up a backpack in the church foyer, and to fill it with essentials and comfort items for a special foster child.  Please return your filled bag to the church by Sunday, July 29th, when we will pray together over the Journey Bags before they are sent off.  For more information, please contact Rachel Fitch.

At seven he had already moved more times than the total number of years he had been on earth.  And this time, like the times before, he moved with his belongings in a trash bag.  A suitcase, at least, would have added a small degree of dignity to the whole affair--to be placed in another and yet another foster home before reaching 3rd grade.  Trash bags break, you know.  Trash bags can't possibly support the contents of any life, and certainly not a life as fragile as this.   - Social Worker from "The Child I Didn't Adopt"
