The Journey Bag Project
Jul

to Aug 4

The Journey Bag Project

Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me. Mark 9:37

What are Journey Bags?

Journey Bags provide a tangible way to minister to children who are placed quickly into foster care. Especially when a placement needs to happen right away, children might arrive at their new foster home with nothing but the clothes that they are wearing! Journey Bags are full of practical and comforting items to bless these children and help them know they are loved, special and prayed for. The bags also ease the burden of the transition for the new caregiver so that they can focus on the child’s immediate needs.

How does it work?

Simply grab a backpack from the TFI (The Forgotten Initiative) table located outside of sanctuary. Ages baby-16 are available. Go shopping and fill it with the items on the list.

Return the filled bag by Sunday, August 4 for dedication and delivery throughout Central Illinois!

National Day of Prayer

National Day of Prayer

The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people of all faiths to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Our Task Force is a privately funded organization whose purpose is to encourage participation on the National Day of Prayer. It exists to communicate with every individual the need for personal repentance and prayer, to create appropriate materials, and to mobilize the Christian community to intercede for America’s leaders and its families. The Task Force represents a Judeo-Christian expression of the national observance, based on our understanding that this country was birthed in prayer and in reverence for the God of the Bible.

Lazarus Awakening:Finding Your Place in the Heart of God by Joanna Weaver.

In this book, you’ll encounter the story of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus in a fresh way as you open your heart to the truth that you are cherished—apart from anything you accomplish. Just as He called Lazarus forth to new life, Jesus wants to free you to live fully in the light of His love, unhindered by fear, regret, or self-condemnation. You can choose between Monday or Wednesday evenings for this 8-week study, starting Sept. 17 at the church. The cost of the book is $12.00. Contact Jen Keithley or Pam Winterroth  by Sept. 9 to reserve a book.

Although the study started, it’s not too late to join in! Contact Jen or Pam for information.

Fellowship Meal and Prayer Walk

Jeremiah 29:7: But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.  Join us after church TODAY for a fellowship luncheon followed by our first church-wide prayer walk.  A prayer walk is an opportunity to mobilize into Hanna City, praying specifically for her welfare.  Pray quietly, out loud, or in silence.  Invite the Holy Spirit to open our eyes, ears and hearts to what the Lord desires.  Pray for God’s blessing of redemption upon our community and for the present-hour needs of each household.

August 12, following morning worship service, we will share a potluck lunch in our downstairs fellowship room.  After fueling up with food and fellowship, all who feel led will mobilize into Hanna City for a prayer walk.

If you have questions about the luncheon, please contact the hostesses - Dorcus Phoebe.
